These cockles or beberechos as they are called in Spanish from Yurrita are small, firm and delicious. Preserved in salty water, they are delicious with the taste of the sea. Caught and preserved in Galicia, the Northwestern most region of Spain, famous for its seafood.
As with most delicious conservas, we suggest serving them simply. Open the can, perhaps a squeeze of lemon and enjoy. They can also be drained, cooked lightly in white wine and garlic and stirred through pasta.
With nearly 150 years of history, Yurrita is the oldest canning company in the Basque Country and one of the oldest active agri-food companies in Spain.
