Brava Sardines on Toast
To give the recipe a bit of a kick, we have gone for ones with a bit of heat, such as delicious Brava Sardines. Here's a simple and delicious recipe for sardines on toast;
2 slices of bread (whole wheat or sourdough recommended)
1 can of gourmet brava sardines in oil, drained (keep the sauce to drizzel later)
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 lemon, juiced
Sliced avocado or some nice peppery salad leaves.
Salt and pepper to taste
Toast the bread slices until golden brown.
Spread the butter evenly over each slice of toast.
Arrange the sardines on top of the toast slices, using a fork to flake the sardines if desired.
Squeeze lemon juice over the sardines and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
Add optional toppings if desired, such as sliced avocado, or some nice peppery salad leaves. Serve immediately while the toast is still warm. A squeeze of lime juice will bring it all to life in a way that you never thought canned sardines could taste! The perfect meal, packed with protein and healthy omega-3 fatty acids.
